Editing

My editing
In order to add effects I needed to select the effects tab then choose the effect or transition that I wish to add, then I need to drag the effect directly to where I want it to take place in. For a transition, I would drag it between two video clips to where i want the transition to take place in. Once this is done, I would then have to render the clip using "cmd+r" for it to then work.

Before even being able to start editing, first I had to download the track of youtube using www.convertyoutube2mp3.com, once this had been downloaded successfully the next step was to select file then import.

I imported the file directly from iTunes from the folders on the desktop.

Once this had been done, the track would appear on the screen like this. I then needed to drag the audio into the appropriate timeline which you can see has now been successfully done in light green after rendering. The fact that it's not red tells us that the audio has now been  successfully added to the timeline, so now when I play the product it would work effectively, it's up to me to make sure that my video is in synch with the song.

In order to create bin files and folders I needed to select file and then new bin. I could then rename files appropriately where i can now insert footage within specified folders, this is done to help me be more organised when editing.

Over coming editing problems

During the process of editing my music video, I realised that we didn't film enough of the vital scenes. We have so many retakes of the chorus and intro but yet we don't even have clips of some of the verses! Because of that I'm really struggling to edit my music video because I don't want to make it obvious to the audience that I added in a lot of extras because I didn't have enough footage. But I suppose in a way it's testing me as a media student to see if I'm able to overcome the situation with the knowledge I have gained throughout the two years of studying media. Since I didn't study Media Studies in GCSE, I struggled often with how to do certain things like adding split scenes and certain effects. However, I was able to overcome some of my issues by watching Youtube tutorials which i found extremely helpful, and the things Youtube couldn't help me with, I asked my Media Studies teacher.

Two/three-column Storyboard

Two-column storyboard

This is a brief preview on how 2-column story boards look like.

Two column story boards are there to help you instruct the camera man, technicians and the actors on what they are supposed to be doing on filming day. This method of planning is really useful for us because it helps us be very precocious and accurate on what we're supposed to be doing as a group on filming day. It's important that you include; camera shot angles, describe how the lighting is going to be like, specify the length of each shot, action of the shot must be clear and also to make it easier for yourself, you can also include editing notes to save time when it comes to editing the footage. Due to the type of work we're doing, we don't have to write about every shot we do, instead we can just write about every sequence.

My three-column storyboard

This is my three column storyboard where I have added an extra column with the marked up footage code. I did this to make it easier for me to identify which footage is going where. It makes life a lot easier as an editor because it speeds up the process of developing the final product and also allows me to organise and arrange footage appropriately, because in the real world, most editors are not on set to know which footage is supposed to go where when editing. Having a third column with the footage code, allowing me to know what would actually be taking place in the footage, and also the duration of all of the shots.

Research plan

.
Research plan The research that I and my group plan to conduct will be handing out questionnaires then following them up with a focus group. This will allow us to identify our target market and get various answers on various questions and then give our target audience what they want. This is done by identifying a demand for our music video and then exploiting it. By following up the questionnaires with focus groups we are able to find out detailed information about responses from the questionnaire, therefore giving us a broader range of opinions such as identifying how exactly the target market would be attracted to our music video, most especially the genre of music we plan on implementing the music video in. We have decided to hand out 10 questionnaires each to 5 males and 5 females in order for us to identify our target market. When distributing the questionnaires, we’re going to try and hand them out to people from all different ethnics, age groups and locations. The purpose of the questionnaire is to find out why people listen to electric music and what is their favourite artist within this music genre and why. The questionnaire should consist of open and closed questions; this is so we are able to get direct answers to what we are looking for. Continuing from the questionnaires, we will then conduct a focus group on 3-5 students. It’s a perfect opportunity for us to go into depth detail from our questionnaire follow up questions. For example, if someone were to say "yes" they do like listening to electric music; a question in the focus group would then be why? Why do you like listening to it? What attracts you to electric music? In terms of work load, work was delegated throughout the team in order to ensure that this research plan was put in place

Summary

Summary

Our music video is about a man trying to communicate his feelings to his current girlfriend really poorly. He goes through all these different emotions and his unable to control them. At one point during the music video, there’s going to be a band playing behind him in a “rocky” sort of way to blend in with the other scenes. He sings to his partner begging for forgiveness and trying to reassure her that the way he behaves is not because of her. Unfortunately for him, his girlfriend doesn’t want to here it and wants nothing more to do with him.

We plan on filming at around 3:30pm after school; this is because this is the most convenient time for our actor.
